Pathways to Work Advisory Service

Pathways to Work helps people to get work if they are receiving Employment and Support Allowance or an incapacity benefit because of a health condition or disability. The help is tailored specifically for each person taking part in the programme.

About Pathways to Work

Pathways to Work is a programme run by Jobcentre Plus to help people who are claiming Employment and Support Allowance or incapacity benefits to get work.  A Pathways Adviser holds weekly sessions, by appointment at the Practice.

The Adviser offers help and support to overcome barriers to work.  She can:

  • Arrange to have your C.V created at no charge
  • Help find suitable employment or training
  • Help clients retain present employment by working with their employer
  • Arrange financial support for clients that meet specific criteria
  • Help you cope with your health condition
  • Discuss working hours to enable clients to retain benefits
  • Offer a mentoring and support services.

Good news stories from Pathways to Work

'Pippa had been unemployed for a long time due to ill-health.  She was nervous about interviews and lacked confidence generally.  Pathways to Work arranged for a work trial (giving her and the employer a chance to try the job whilst remaining on benefit).  She is now employed'

 'Following serious stomach and bowel surgery Fiona found it more and more difficult to maintian her self employed status as a funeral celebrant.  Pathways to work paid for internet connection to enable her to do it from home.  She can combine this with her work as an artist.'

Anna, aged 36 with history of drug abuse and never worked.  An appointment was arranged with New Deal for Disabled People - they boosted her confidence and did mock interviews with her.  Pathways to work paid for smart clothes for her to attend an interview.  She was successful and now works with young people educating them about drug abuse. She was entitled to claim £40 per week Return to Work Credit on top of her salary.
